Our Rooms:
The Service has three indoor learning areas that are allocated to groups of children based on their age and developmental readiness. Children move between rooms once they reach an appropriate age or stage of development and room vacancies.
Our rooms are called…
Booragan – 6 weeks to 2.5 years
Mooragan – 2.5 years – 4 years
Dooragan – 4 years – 6 years (year before school)
What do our room names mean?
Passing what is now known as the mid-north coast of New South Wales, Captain James Cook named the mountains he could see as the Three Brothers. What he did not know is that the traditional owners of the land – the Birpai people had called these mountains the Three Brothers — Dooragan, Mooragan and Booragan — for millennia.
Room Transitions:
When a child is moving up to the next room, they may be excited and nervous at the same time. Our educators aim to make transitions smooth and successful for the child and family. At SJECS we prepare the children by providing them opportunities to build relationships with the educators in the next room. The educators usually start by visiting the room to build relationships, so that children can become familiar with the new learning environment. We believe in taking time to gradually transition children respectfully and in collaboration with them and their families, has a positive outcome for all.
